Douglas Stain Black

Tenco Douglas stain is specially designed to treat Douglas wood, derived from the Douglas fir. This water-based acrylic stain protects the wood from various weather conditions while maintaining its natural appearance.

Douglas fir

Douglas fir is known for its natural durability, but to best protect the wood from moisture, UV rays and fungal growth, it is often treated with Douglas fir stain. This stain penetrates deep into the wood and provides a protective layer that prevents moisture from penetrating, making the wood less susceptible to rot and mold growth. It also protects against discoloration from UV rays, so the wood retains its natural color longer.

Douglas stain or oil?

Douglas stain and Douglas oil are both used to protect Douglas wood, but they have different properties:

  1. Composition
    • Douglas stain: A transparent or semi-transparent stain containing pigments that give the wood a specific color. It usually contains protective elements against UV rays and moisture, protecting the wood from discoloration and rot.
    • Douglas-fir oil: An impregnating agent that penetrates deep into the wood to keep moisture out. It often contains fewer pigments and is usually transparent, preserving the natural look of the wood.
  2. Protection
    • Douglas fir stain: Provides protection from UV rays and discoloration in addition to color, with a visible coating on the wood surface.
    • Douglas fir oil: Penetrates deeper into the wood and protects mainly against moisture, making the wood less likely to rot. It offers less protection from UV rays and can be less durable than stain.
  3. Appearance
    • Douglas-fir stain: The pigments in the stain can slightly alter the natural appearance of the wood, depending on the color of the stain.
    • Douglas oil: Usually preserves the natural appearance of the wood because it is more transparent and contains fewer pigments that change the color.

Douglas stain colors

Douglas stain is available in various shades, from transparent to different wood colors, so the natural look of the wood is maintained. Applying the stain requires little preparation; make sure the wood is thoroughly cleaned and dry before applying the stain.
