How to spray silver wheel paint
Spray painting silver r ims is easy to do yourself in a few simple steps with the right products. The step-by-step plan below shows you how to spray silver paint on rims so that the wheels look like new again.
- For best results, we recommend not leaving the wheels on the car. So disassemble the rims if you want to spray them.
- Thoroughly clean the paint on the rims with a good degreaser.
- It is necessary to sand the rims before spraying. To do this, use a sanding sponge or sanding fleece and start from coarse to fine.
- Rims completely sanded? Then first spray a primer that ensures adhesion of the paint to the rim. If you don't do this, the paint may come off your rim sooner.
- After the primer is dry, sand it lightly for a smooth surface and the best adhesion.
- Spray rim lacquer silver in a first thin layer. Let it "dry" briefly and then spray 2-3 full coats in a smooth motion. You can apply the various spray coats crosswise for maximum coverage.
- Let the final coat cure until it is dust dry. Is the paint sufficiently covered? Then you can move on. If you want to apply some more coats, you can do so now!
- Once the rim silver is dry you can spray the clear coat. Spray the clear coat again in first thin layer, followed by 2 to 3 full layers.
- Now let everything cure for at least 24 hours before mounting the rims back on the car.
Is clearcoat for rims necessary?
For best results, clearcoat is needed to ensure that the paint stays on the wheels for a long time. Clearcoat is a varnish that provides protection, durability and shine. You spray clearcoat for rims over the paint, giving it maximum protection. Because rim clearcoat is available in high gloss, matte and silk gloss, you determine the degree of shine of your rims!
Using primer for wheel rim lacquer
Primer is necessary for the paint to adhere to your rims. By first applying a primer to your rims, the paint can adhere well and prevent the paint from coming off the wheel. Especially when the surface is bare, we recommend spraying a primer for wheel paint first.
