Rust-Oleum Metal Expert 3-in-1 Anti Rust Primer is a professional anti-corrosion primer for ferrous metal. The fast-drying anti-corrosion primer provides the perfect base coat on which to apply a water- or solvent-based metal paint. Metal is a difficult surface to paint and only becomes more difficult if a metal primer is not used.

Metal primer

When do you use an anti-rust primer? Primer is the primer and the first coat you apply to the surface to be painted. By applying this layer, you allow the paint to adhere better to the surface. This provides better coverage and a nicer end result. A corrosion-resistant primer provides a good rust-preventing initial layer, which you can then paint over even more easily. By using a rust primer on rusting metals such as steel and iron, you can be sure that the surface will remain rust-free for a very long time.

Painting metal

A metal primer ensures the adhesion of paint to the metal, and it also resists rusting.

How do I use rust primer?

1. Make sure the surface to be painted is free of paint residue, rust, oil and grease. Sand already painted surfaces first for better adhesion. Cover surrounding surfaces to protect them from spray mist.
2. Stir well before use. Apply in 1 to 2 coats with a suitable brush or roller.
3. Dust dry after 2 hours. If necessary, a second coat can be applied after 16 hours. Drying time is longer at lower temperatures.
4. Cured after 24 hours.

Not recommended for use in damp conditions or when the temperature is below 10°C.
