How to polish headlights

In our blog, we previously explained how to repair scratches and dull headlights by polishing them. This "how to polish headlight" step-by-step plan will help you sand and polish dull headlights that are yellow and weathered. By first sanding the headlight, you will remove scratches and a dull deposit. After wet sanding the headlight, you can begin polishing to seal the headlight in the final step with a 2K clear coat that protects against UV sunlight and yellowing.

  1. Before you begin, it is important to tape the car around the headlight. This will prevent any paint damage. Use masking tape to tape off the headlight.
  2. Clean the headlight with a degreaser.
  3. Wet the headlight by spraying water.
  4. Start by wet sanding the headlight with waterproof sandpaper. Do this in steps of P1000, P1200, P1500, P2000, P3000.
  5. After wet sanding the headlight, the lens will look dull.
  6. Now it is time to polish the dull headlight.
  7. Apply the headlight polish to the polishing pad and start polishing.
  8. Make sure
  9. that the polishing pad is flat/straight to the lens of the headlight so that the pad can do its best work while polishing.
  10. Wipe off any remaining polish with a microfiber cloth

Apply a headlight clear coat

Finished polishing headlights? Then you can seal the headlight with a 2K clearcoat. This headlight clearcoat protects the lens from UV sunlight, scratches, weathering and prevents the headlight from becoming dull again. Want to spray a 2K clear coat on the headlight?
